Summary of Priority Ideas

 

Quality of Life

 

1. Retain small town atmosphere – community protection (protect what we have).

 

2. Lakes protected from commercial development.  

 

3. Plan for cooperation among four counties.

 

Natural Resources and Recreation

 

1.  Enforce existing regulations and protect lakes with more restrictive regulations for septic systems.

 

2.  Restriction of commercial development on lakes. 

 

3.  Monitor water quality in lakes.

 

Transportation and Infrastructure

 

1.  Prohibit semi-truck parking along right-of-way.

 

2.  Improve all government infrastructure such as schools, libraries, police, fire etc.

 

3.  Need aesthetic guidelines to maintain character of area and attract small businesses.

 

Economic Development

 

1. Maintain small town integrity of Melrose.

 

2. Stronger regulations of mobile homes and less mobile homes.

 

3.  Promote eco-tourism, especially with rivers and lakes.
