Farmland qualifying for agricultural classification is not
exempted but rather under Florida Law is classified to a value
which is often substantially less than market value. Only lands,
which are used for bonafide agricultural purposes, shall be
classified agricultural. "Bonafide Agricultural
purposes" means active good faith commercial agricultural
use of land for income purposes.
Application for Agricultural Classification is made annually at
the same time exemptions are applied for. Approval of all
applications is subject to prior review by the Putnam County
Greenbelt Advisory Board.
Lands used primarily for residential, developmental, or
investment purposes are not eligible for this classification.
Agricultural classification for tax purposes is not the same
thing as agricultural zoning. These two terms are often confused.
